About Me

Hi, I’m Giovanni, a software developer, user experience designer, and web application security expert from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I started writing software in 1998 when I was 14 years old. My formal education is in design, visual arts, and filmmaking.

I have also worked professionally as a photographer, video editor, motion graphics designer, and user experience designer, but I always return to code.

In 2008, I started working on my first startup, a digital sign management platform. It wasn’t a success, but I learned a lot about what not to do.

In 2011, I co-founded Blimp, to build software for creative companies. After a few years, we pivoted to focus on consulting work. Currently, Blimp designs and builds world-class custom software for our super smart, super cool, and beautiful clients.

In 2015, I started working on Gasolina Móvil, a mobile app that enabled mobile phone payments at the gas pump. I worked as the CTO of the company until 2022. This was one of my most challenging projects to date. It involved, custom hardware, low-level code, payment processing, security compliance and many other challenges. A lot of fun.

Currently, I’m back at Blimp doing cybersecurity consulting for tech startups and building custom software for all kinds of businesses.

On this site, I try to share things that I want to remember and reference later. Posts are in English and Spanish. Here are a few of the most popular ones:

I also publish short posts on my Beluga feed and on Mastodon.
